Screenshots are a great tool that can help to improve the quality of translations. Screenshots provide translators with additional context hence a better understanding of how the source strings should be translated. Added screenshots appear under each string in the Context section of the Editor. This way, translators can see the exact location of a string in the UI.

To upload screenshots to your project, follow these steps:

  1. Open your project and go to Settings > Screenshots tab.
  2. Drag images from your machine, or click Upload.

To view high-resolution images in a proper scale on a non-retina display, change the scale factor by adding “@2x” or “@3x” at the end of the screenshot file name.

Tag Strings

To show translators where certain strings are located in the UI, it’s necessary to tag strings on the screenshots. In Crowdin, you can tag strings using the following methods:

  • Drag and drop
  • Text recognition
  • Auto tag

To tag strings on the screenshot manually, follow these steps:

  1. Seleziona la schermata;
  2. Click .
  3. Ordina e filtra le stringhe elencate. You can select all files or specific ones and search strings by text or context.
  4. Drag the needed string to the corresponding text area on the screenshot. Alternatively, you can tag strings on the screenshot without specifying the exact place by clicking on the needed strings.
  5. Clicca Salva.

Tag Strings with Text Recognition

When using Text recognition, the system searches for a string that matches the text area you select among all the strings in your project. If there are multiple similar matches, you will see all of the found strings and select the most suitable one.

  1. Seleziona la schermata;
  2. Click .
  3. Evidenzia il testo per la traduzione.
  4. Clicca Salva.

If the is not active after you click on it, the Text recognition feature isn’t available for your project’s source language.

Applicare automaticamente i tag stringhe

When using the Auto tag, the system automatically detects text areas within a screenshot. Then the matching strings are searched for among all the strings in your project. All of the found strings are tagged on the screenshot.

  1. Seleziona la schermata;
  2. Click .
  3. Clicca Salva.

You can also tag strings automatically on multiple screenshots at once:

  1. Select multiple screenshots holding Ctrl or Shift.
  2. Click Auto tag.

Aggiornamento Screenshot

You can upload a new screenshot that will replace the current one. Le stringhe già contrassegnate che sono rilevanti rimarrebbero taggate. In case the text on the screenshot changed its location, strings would remain tagged but on the new locations.

  1. Seleziona la schermata;
  2. Click .
  3. Select a new screenshot on your machine.
  4. Clicca Salva.

Rename Screenshots

To rename a screenshot, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the needed screenshot and select Rename.
  2. Specify a new name.
  3. Press Enter.

Download Screenshots

You can download screenshots and reuse them in other projects or elsewhere.

To download screenshots, follow these steps:

  1. Select one or multiple screenshots holding Ctrl or Shift.
  2. Clicca Scarica.

Alternatively, click on the needed screenshot and select Download.
