Machine translation engines integrated with Crowdin provide translation suggestions from the automatic translation services like Google Translate and AutoML Translation, Microsoft Translate, Yandex.Translate, and more. Suggestions made by machine engines are displayed in the Editor, under the translators’ suggestions field. Also, you can do pre-translation using machine translation engines.

Machine Translation suggestions in the Editor

By default, machine translations are enabled for each project, but it is required to configure the translation engines before the project members will be able to use them. In case, you want to disable this option for specific projects, clear Show machine translation suggestions in the project settings.

In order to configure the machine translation engines, follow these steps:

  1. Gehen Sie auf Ressourcen in der Menüleiste.
  2. Klicken Sie auf Maschinelle Übersetzung.
  3. Fill in the credentials of the preferred translation engine.
  4. Klicken Sie auf Aktualisieren.

MT Engine IDs

As soon as you specify your MT engine credentials, the system will automatically assign a unique MT engine ID. Later on, you can use these IDs in API requests for pre-translation via machine engines.

Microsoft Translator

Go to the Windows Azure to access your Microsoft Translator API subscription key. Translator Text API offers free tier with 2,000,000 translated characters.

Yandex.Translate

Use your Yandex APIs Console to obtain your Yandex.Translate API key. Translation projects, that do not exceed 10,000,000 characters per month (and no more than 1,000,000 in 24 hours). You can use the Yandex.Translate API for free.

DeepL Translator

DeepL API is accessible with the DeepL API subscription plan (For developers tab). Navigate to the DeepL Pro Account page to get a unique Authentication Key. Please note that the DeepL API plan is the only plan that provides this feature.

In case you’re subscribed to a different subscription plan, you can switch to the DeepL API plan in your personal account settings. DeepL also provides a simulator that allows you to check your Authentication Key in action.

Watson (IBM) Translator

Watson (IBM) Translator offers 1,000,000 characters per month free of charge and paid plans to choose after exceeding the limit. Go to the Watson (IBM) Services Console to get your Watson Translator API key.

Amazon Translate

The free version of Amazon Translate is available for 12 months, afterward, you will need to pay for the number of characters translated.

To obtain API key and Secret key necessary for integration follow these steps:

  1. Go to Amazon Console. Sign in if you have an account or create a new AWS account by following setup steps. Amazon Console
  2. When logged in click on your username in the top right corner and select My Security Credentials. In the section with access keys click Create New Access Key.
    If you don’t have access to this section ask the administrator of Amazon AWS profile to create an IAM user for you. Generate API credentials

  3. Copy Access Key ID and Secret Access Key and click Close.
    Note: Secret Access Key is visible only once.

    Google Translate

To use Google Translate you shall have Google Cloud account with an active billing profile. Cloud Translation is priced monthly based on usage. Learn more

To obtain API key necessary for integration follow these steps:

  1. Go to Google Cloud Console. Log in to the existing Google Cloud account or set up a new one.
  2. Choose an existing project or add project using New Project button. Google Cloud Projects
  3. Go to API & Services > Library and search for Cloud Translation API. Google Cloud library
  4. Click Enable. Enable Cloud Translate API
  5. Go to API & Services > Credentials and create API key. Create API Key
  6. Copy API key and click Close.

Google Cloud AutoML Translation

Translate your projects using custom models that you create using Google Cloud’s AutoML Translation. This way you can get more accurate translations for customer-specific terminology.

To use AutoML Translation, it is required to have Google Cloud account with an active billing profile. Google AutoML Translation is priced monthly based on how many characters you send for translation. Learn more.

To create service account key and obtain the necessary credentials for integration, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to Google Cloud Console. Log in to the existing Google Cloud account or sign up for a new one.
  2. Choose an existing project or add project using New Project button. Google Cloud Projects
  3. Select or verify your billing account. If you create a new project, link a billing account to it. In case you are using the existing project, make sure that your billing is enabled. You can find the required information under the Billing option on the main menu. Learn more Billing Option
  4. Go to API & Services > Library and search for Cloud AutoML API. Google Cloud AutoML library
  5. Click Enable. Enable Cloud AutoML API
  6. The next step is to create a service account private key pair. Service account is used by Crowdin. Applications use service accounts to make authorized API calls.

To set up authentication and create your private key, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Create Service Account Key Page.
  2. From the Service account list, select New service account.
  3. In the Service account name field, enter a name that describes what this service account will do.
  4. From the Role list, select Project > Owner.
