What is Agile localization?

Agile localization is an approach that helps you deal with frequently updated content that you want to be available for your customers worldwide. Once you decide to localize your product, it’s important to keep it that way and make sure the new content is multilingual as well. This typically includes new features, product updates, documentation, website, and other user-facing content.

While you’re creating new content, translators can be making translations, so you move work faster by working in parallel. The latest content can be available for translators nearly instantly and updated automatically. This way they can make translations right away in their own translation environment. At the same time, you can easily receive ready translations with the help of integrations and other automation tools.

With this approach people can easily track which content was updated, requires translation, or is ready to be used on production. So, once the new feature is ready to be released, translations won’t be slowing you down, as they are done in parallel.

Key Features and Concepts

  • Organizations
An organization can be based on your company’s domain and it’s a secured space, where only invited people will have access with specified permissions, that depend on the user role. Each organization includes your workspace, user management, localization resources, and general settings. As every organization has a workspace, all the projects are stored and easily managed from there.

  • Project groups
Create projects and groups of projects in your Organization. Treat them like folders, where you can assemble related projects together and grant members access to several projects at once.

  • Centralized user management
Invite people to your Organization once and then just add them to your projects, groups or assign to workflow steps by choosing organization members from a drop-down list. Assign project members with manager permissions to give more authority to manage an organization, group, or project on their level.

  • Workflows
Workflow is a sequence of steps that content in your project should go through, like translation or proofreading. You can use unlimited workflow steps that can be connected both in parallel or subsequently. Customize your workflows, set up separate rules and permissions for each workflow step to automate content flow. Each step can have different target languages and assignees.

  • Work with external translation agencies or provide your own translation services
Each Organization can be a Vendor and a Client simultaneously. Vendor - Organization providing professional translation services, Client - Organization sharing a secured copy of shared projects or workflow steps that require some action, like translation or proofreading. Each Organization looks the same and has access to the same features. It’s optional to work with a Vendor organization, all the translations can be done within your organization as well.

  • Leverage several Machine Translation engines at the same time
You can configure and assign multiple MT engines simultaneously to the same project and thus the same files. This is helpful in different cases, for example, when you’d prefer to translate different languages with different MT engines. Currently, you can connect the following ones: Microsoft Translator, Yandex.Translate, DeepL Translator, Watson (IBM) Translator, Amazon Translate, Google Translate.

  • Integrations and automation technologies
Connect the tools you already use to build your products and store your source content with Crowdin Enterprise, to make sure the content for translation is always up-to-date. Go further and automate sync of translations made in Crowdin with your product. Do all that and even more using our in-built integrations, or make your custom solutions using our API, CLI, and webhooks.

  • Extended API
Do nearly anything you can perform through Crowdin’s web interface. Create your projects, upload and update files, download translations and upload screenshots with source strings tagged to them. Manage your organization within Crowdin Enterprise in a simple, programmatic way using RESTful API.
